As the days passed Óisin's health
continued to fail. On many occasions he tested his physical
strength to see could it recover. On one such occasion his
second son, Seán Óg, asked him to come swimming
in Lough MacNean, to a small sandy beach where the clan would
often bathe in bygone years. Seán Óg thought
if Óisin could swim, it may give him hope that he could
be healed. Everyone in the clan was still hoping and praying
for a miracle.

Seán Óg brought his eldest
daughter Céile with him hoping it would help bring
cheer to his Father. Seán Óg was standing in
the water as his Father stood on the waters edge. As he looked
at his Father he couldn't help but notice how thin and frail
he'd become. He didn't think about it for long, as he couldn't
bear to accept that his heros life was slowly ebbing away.
Remarkbly there was a focus in Óisin's
eye as he began to enter the water. What he did next absolutely
surprised Seán Óg. He dived into the water and
swam with all his strength across the beach. It was like he
was testing his strength - "can I do what I used to do"
Óisin thought. Then just as he swam back to the waters
edge, he tried to stand up but his strength failed and he
fell. Seán Óg moved quickly to help him. By
the time he got to Óisin, he had managed to pull himself
out of the water. Not a word was spoken. Yet Seán Óg
could feel his Fathers heart wrenching dissapointment as he
knew his strength was in decline. Nothing needed to be said.
As they dried and changed Seán Óg
tried to cheers his Father up and said "isent this amazing,
here we are three generations of the Ó Ceallaigh clan
swimming together, thats something you can be proud of ".
His Father looked on despondently and remained silent.
